Spotlight: Christy Zheng

Christy Zheng
SEEDS ’15 | Milton Academy ’19 | Yale University ’23

Christy was recently accepted Early Decision to Yale University. Though still undecided on a potential college major, Christy has been considering going into medicine or running a biotech start-up.

What was your experience like in SEEDS’ Scholars Program?
I absolutely loved my SEEDS experience. I initially just wanted the opportunity for academic enrichment and to better myself as a student. I was always studying for all the classes and memorizing vocabulary words, but looking back, those were some of the happiest 14 months of my life. I learned so much academically and socially. The most memorable aspect for me was the Leadership Retreat; it was the first time I was ever out in the woods. Trying out the rope courses and going dam rappelling inspired me to do rock climbing at Milton.

What was the most important thing you learned with SEEDS?
The most important thing I learned with SEEDS was that we should make the most of every situation we are in. At the end of the day, success is not measured by what school you attend, but rather what you do with what you are given.

How has SEEDS been part of your experience at Milton?
Even at Milton, SEEDS is always present. My SEEDS Guidance officer comes to visit me and my Milton advisor each year, so they are always up to date on what’s going on in my life. Thanks to SEEDS, I was also lucky enough to secure a computational chemistry research position at NJIT the past two summers. In doing my research, I looked at the thermodynamics of fluorinated acids.

What are you most looking forward to at Yale?
I’m most excited about taking courses that interest me. Over my winter break, I spent a lot of time pouring over chemistry and programming courses that are available and I can’t wait to just dig in. Studying abroad would be pretty incredible too!

What does NJ SEEDS mean to you?
NJ SEEDS means that you always have the support and connections you need to succeed. It means that you will be equipped with knowledge and opportunities that you never would have expected. Being a part of NJ SEEDS was such a privilege. I’m so lucky to have SEEDS invest in my future. Without SEEDS, I doubt I could have achieved all the things I have done or have any of the opportunities currently available to me.
