College Scholars Program: Overview

The College Scholars Program is a 17-month education experience designed to prepare and place top-performing students from low-income households into selective colleges with excellent preparation and sufficient financial aid. In order to be nominated, students must attend one of these eligible public high schools.

College Scholars is a free program that provides students with:

  • Academic coursework
  • A comprehensive college search (campus tours, visits from college representatives, counseling, mentoring, and fly-in weekend applications)
  • College essay development
  • Test preparation
  • Personal application support
  • Professional financial aid advocacy and assistance
  • Life skills for college and beyond
  • Guidance during the first two years of college

College Scholars begin academic classes with SEEDS on Saturdays during the spring of their junior year, followed by a three-week summer residency on a college campus. College Scholars resume academic classes each Saturday during senior year.

Following graduation from SEEDS and matriculation in college, College Scholars receive support from SEEDS’ guidance officers, including on-campus visits through sophomore year in college.
